TRMM V6 Initial Processing Trending Results

Privacy, Security, Notices

Due to the TRMM altitude boost TSDIS has begun trending certain variables. The trending software is run on each orbit of data producing ASCII files that contain the sum, sum of squares and count information of each variable along with other bookeeping information. These trend files are then used to make the various graphs shown below.

The ASCII trend files can be downloaded from the Trend Data Files Page

Boost Completed on 8/24/01
Graphs and trend files are automatically updated when TSDIS processing completes for the day.

Retro-processing using 1B21 V5.56 has completed.

Tracking of TRMM attitude with PR available.

We are still updating the contents of these pages.  Please notify TSDIS Help Desk of any problems you encounter.

Time Series Plots and Histogram
Below are the trending graphs organized by algorithm.

blue bullet graphicTime series plots display the mean and standard deviation of a variable per day.
There are three (3)  vertical lines in the daily plots that represent the dates of:
                8/7: First boost at ~14:54UTC
                8/18: Return from Sun Acq.
                8/24: Last altitude boost.
The average of the daily means is listed on the x-axis for two intervals (5/1/01,8/6/01) and (8/25/01, present).

blue bullet graphicHistogram plots display a histogram of data before the boost [5-1-01 through 8-6-01] with an overlay of another histogram from data after the boost [8-25-01 to present]. The vertical lines in the graphs denote the means of the two distributions. The base data for the histograms are the means computed from every orbit in the trend files.
We're still playing with the bin sizes and ranges on these.
Histograms are presented in terms of  % of data, so direct comparisons can be made between the pre- and post-boost
data sets.
