NASA collects data that is inherently three dimensional, and this data can be displayed in Google Earth. Using Google Earth, you can fly around storms that were observed by the TRMM satellite. You can see how various observations fit together to give a more complete picture of a severe weather event. The observations include cloud top height, 3D precipitation, surface rain rate, and lightning strike locations. Visit http://earth.google.com, to download at no cost the Google Earth program for Microsoft Window, Mac OS X, or Linux. The 3D TRMM Google Earth files are best viewed with version 4 of Google Earth which was released in 2006. Click on one of the KMZ download links below to download one of the Google Earth files. For an explanation of the storm, click below on the name of the event. If you have questions or suggestions about these Google Earth files, please contact the TSDIS Helpdesk at the e-mail address given at the bottom of this page. Alternatively, your question may be addressed in the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page that we are compiling.
